![]() ![]() I think it would be simple to blame the loss of her poetry on Sappho’s sexuality, but Hare goes on to suggest that it was burned for Sappho’s reputation of promiscuity. ![]() However, it seems necessary to acknowledge her potential bisexuality in order to fully understand what little poetry remains. Throughout history, her bisexuality has been erased and her writings about women have given her the reputation of a lesbian. To me, one of the most important things that Hare brought up was Sappho’s sexuality. While much has been reconstructed from her poetry, it is a shame that such an important literary contribution was partially lost at the hands of the church. Hare’s writing on Sappho was just how much of her life is unknown. ![]() Paler than summer grass am I, and likewise fallen Lightning races under my skin, a delicate fire.
